Grace, The Former Academic Manager of CLC

I have studied education, video art and classical singing in Australia and overseas. I find this gives me good tools for adapting to my audience. For example, take an English proverb, I could share the story and pronunciation with our beginner General English students, but our IELTS students are ready for the non-literal meaning and complex vocabulary – the wisdom in proverbs.

I find education fascinating and choose challenging subjects to learn, for example Argentinian tango. I have danced here and in Europe. Like CLC's previous Academic Manager Kalon Hibbert, I believe in holistic education and this makes tango relatively easy.

I speak Spanish and have taught English in high schools and at university in Pamplona, Spain for 9 years where I completed a Master of Teaching. I love giving nougat at Christmas – it’s typical in Spain - and still have a bit left from last Christmas. Exploring other cultures is part of my daily life.

I wake up extra early during the week to do yoga before I catch the train to the city.

There are amazing food shops close to CLC and I know I am missing something, but I always bring a sandwich to work. CLC is a growing school and there are things to do even at lunchtime! The other reason is that I like healthy food and sport, especially cycling.

I have also studied fine arts and classical singing and I practice them in my free time. I love being part of the CLC- Australian City Design College family, where visual teaching strategies improve learning.

I'm from Sydney but my family home is now a farm in southern New South Wales. I always look forward to getting back to nature!
